Intersex Asia is proud to introduce The Purple Key, a new and small initiative designed to open access to accurate, inclusive, and evolving knowledge about intersex realities. This project is one of Intersex Asia’s newest efforts in advancing the rights, visibility, and understanding of intersex people across Asia.
For far too long, conversations about intersex identities have been clouded by medicalized or technical language, misinformation, and misunderstanding. Many of the terms used to describe intersex variations carry cultural bias, confusion, or are simply too technical for the general public, particularly those who are learning about themselves or just know about intersexuality. The Purple Key was born out of the need to change that. It seeks to empower both intersex people and the public with accessible explanations and contextual understanding of intersex-related terminology—medical, social, and cultural alike.

Unlike a traditional glossary, The Purple Key is a living, breathing resource.
