Intersex Asia is excited to announce the election of Esan Regmi as the new Chair of Intersex Asia, effective from 1 January 2025. This milestone in leadership is a significant step forward in our ongoing commitment to advocating for the rights and visibility of intersex individuals throughout the region. We believe that Esan’s extensive experience and dedication to building the intersex community and advocating for its needs will play a pivotal role in guiding our Intersex Asia initiatives and strengthening collaborative efforts among our diverse community members.
Intersex Asia is structured under the oversight of a Governing body, which includes a Chair and a team of Executive Board Members. This governance framework is designed to facilitate effective leadership and ensure that the organization remains aligned with its mission and objectives. According to Intersex Asia’s updated Constitution, the election for leadership takes place every three years through a democratic process during a general meeting.
The most recent General meeting was held in December 2024, where members gathered to discuss significant matters, with a significant focus on the appointment of the new Chair. The session was marked by thorough deliberation and a commitment to a transparent voting process. After careful consideration and a transparent voting process, Esan Regmi was elected as the new Chair of Intersex Asia.

Esan Regmi is one of the co-founders of Intersex Asia; in fact, he was the one proposing to build Intersex Asia as a network organization. Esan served as the Co-chair from 2018 to 2020 and as a board member from 2020 to 2024 to Intersex Asia. In this capacity, he offered valuable insights and strategies that contributed to our mission. Originally from Nepal, Esan, the first intersex person who came out in Nepal, is highly regarded for his vigorous activism in the intersex movement. Since 2017, he serves as the Executive Director of Campaign for Change l, the first and the only intersex-led organization in Nepal, a role that further emphasizes his commitment to advocating for intersex rights and social justice. With his extensive background and passion for creating positive change, Esan is poised to lead Intersex Asia into a future marked by greater empowerment and advocacy for intersex individuals.
Esan Regmi has taken on the role of Chair, collaborating closely with Asa Senja and Jeff B. Cagandahan, who serve as Board Members. Together, they will establish strategic directions for Intersex Asia, aiming to enhance the organization’s effectiveness and its growth. Their collective efforts are focused on advocating for and uplifting the rights of intersex communities throughout Asia, ensuring that Intersex communities are recognized, respected, and empowered in their pursuit of equality and justice. This leadership team is committed to driving meaningful change and fostering a supportive environment for intersex individuals across the region.
