During this year’s Bisexual Visibility Week, we, the intersex community, want to reach out to you to show our support and solidarity. We feel both communities share the same journey toward an equal and just world.
Understanding Our Journeys
As intersex individuals, we know all too well the struggles that come with being misunderstood and marginalized due to our identity. We face many stigma and discrimination that can feel isolating, just like many of you are feeling right now. Not only does the pressure come from society, but we also face a lot of confusion on how to understand ourselves truly. It’s a tough road, but we believe it’s one we can navigate together. Your experiences resonate with us because we share a common goal: to be seen and accepted for who we truly are.
The Power of Being Visible
Visibility is so important. It’s 25 years since the Bisexual community stepped up and celebrated the first-ever Bi Visibility Day in 2019. When you chose to share your stories and embrace your identities, you raised Bisexual awareness and challenged the stereotypes that hold you back. At the moment, the intersex community is going through the same steps. It’s been 6 years since we established Intersex Asia, and increasing visibility is still one of the most critical priorities of the intersex community in Asia. Because of this, we believe both communities can learn so much from each other. By being visible, we can affirm our existence and foster understanding and acceptance. Your journey and our journey matter, and we must continue to express who we are without fear as well as support each other in future movements.

As you celebrate the Bi Visibility Week this year, know that you have allies in us. We’re always ready to support you as we advance toward visibility and acceptance. Let’s lift each other up, share our stories, and remind the world that both our communities deserve respect and recognition.
