For years, intersex people have remained largely invisible in public discourse. When discussing intersex human rights, especially the realities of being intersex in Asia, one question frequently arises from the general public and policymakers alike: “Where are they?”
The reality is simple: we cannot ask people to support a community they do not see. That is why, for Intersex Asia and the broader intersex movement, exposure and visibility have been critical components of every program over the last eight years.
This year is particularly significant. As we move toward the 30th anniversary of intersex awareness, we want to once again highlight the voices of the Asian intersex community across multiple levels, from grassroots narratives to national policy conversations and regional statements. Intersex Asia is proud to stand with intersex individuals every step of the way. Our rallying cry for IDAHOBIT 2026 is clear: Where we are – Here we are!
Intersex Voices: From local to global
This IDAHOBIT, we’re proud to elevate voices from three distinct levels of engagement:
- The Grassroots Level: Centering Community Stories
True advocacy begins on the ground. To highlight the lived realities of our community, we are featuring stories from intersex individuals in Nepal and the Philippines. These deeply personal stories reflect people’s unique journeys and experiences. They bring forward angles that are often missed when communicating about intersex individuals, shedding light on what bodily autonomy for intersex people truly means in everyday life.
- The National Level: Navigating Legal Changes in India
At the national level, we are releasing Inter-Perspective Talkshow Episode 4. This crucial episode focuses on recent legal changes in India that directly affect the intersex community. It provides a platform to discuss intersex legal recognition in the country, exploring how local activists and advocates are navigating these legislative shifts to protect human rights and advance equality.
To ensure our advocacy reaches across borders and linguistic barriers, we are announcing the release of the Asian Intersex Statement in four new languages: Bangla, Hindi, Tamil, and Urdu. This regional expansion ensures that our core demands for human rights, bodily integrity, and the end of stigma can be accessed and championed by even more communities across the continent.
Supporting intersex in Asia: Every Step of the Way
These three activities above outline the comprehensive engagement of the intersex community—from local organizing to national advocacy and regional solidarity.
Intersex Asia is incredibly proud to be the supporting platform at every stage of this journey. As we celebrate IDAHOBIT 2026, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that intersex voices are not just heard but amplified.
Where we are – Here we are!
